Stay With Us

Who Can Stay

Any family from out-of-town with a child receiving medical treatment in Red Deer can stay overnight at Ronald McDonald House. Local families can access our Day Use Program, including our short-stay R&R Room.

The House is also open to expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the House is that families must be in a position of significant financial need to stay here. This is not the case. Our nightly fee is kept low to relieve some of the financial burden that all families with sick children face. No family is turned away based on income or family structure.

Stay Overnight

Families from out-of-town can book one of our family suites for as many days, weeks or months as needed. To be eligible to stay at the House you must:

  • Have a child under the age of 19 receiving treatment at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre or another local health/wellness provider OR have a high-risk pregnancy
  • Have a referral from the hospital social worker, a charge nurse or other professional advocate involved in the treatment of your child OR have a physician’s recommendation to be in close proximity to the hospital prior to the delivery of your child

Stay for the Day

Both local and out-of-town families can access House amenities (including the R&R Room which features a private bedroom and bath) through our Day Use Program. To be eligible for Day Use, you must:

  • Have a child under the age of 19 receiving medical treatment in Red Deer or have a high-risk pregnancy
  • Obtain a referral from the social worker, a charge nurse or other medical personnel at the hospital

Book Your Stay in Three Easy Steps

Step 1: Get Referral

All families staying overnight or for the day require a referral from the hospital social worker, a charge nurse, physician or other medical professional.

Families receiving medical treatment at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre should contact the social worker or inquire with medical personnel to obtain a referral.

Step 2: Check Availability

Availability can only be confirmed within 48 hours of your intended date of arrival. To confirm if a room is available, parents must phone the House no earlier than two days in advance. Availability inquiries can be made seven days a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. by calling 403-340-2007 ext. 102.

Step 3: Check In

Once you’ve confirmed your room, you can check-in between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. seven days a week. A parking stall will be provided for your use for the entire length of your stay.

Returning Families

If you have previously stayed at the House, you do not require a new referral to stay with us for a child’s continued treatment.

Please contact the House directly to arrange your stay by calling 403-340-2007 ext. 129. If your child is receiving treatment for a different medical condition, a new referral is required.

Nightly Fee

The nightly fee for families is $12 per night for the duration of your stay.

Please speak with a member of our Family Services team should you have any questions.
