Stay With Us

Who Can Stay

If you are travelling to Calgary for your child’s medical treatment, we’re here to help.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the House is that families must be in a position of significant financial need to stay here. This is not the case. Our nightly fee is kept low to relieve some of the financial burden that all families with sick children face. No family is turned away based on income or family structure.

A Room to Call Your Own

With a referral from the hospital, out-of-town families can stay with us for as many days, weeks or months needed.

To be eligible to stay at the House you must:

  • Have a child (age 18 or under) receiving medical treatment at a Calgary hospital or a high-risk pregnancy
  • Live a minimum of 45 kilometers from the House
  • Have a referral from a social worker or other medical personnel at the hospital

Stop by for the Day

Our Day Use Program gives families with a child in the hospital a home-base for the day where they can rest, recharge, prepare a hot meal and do a load of laundry. To access our Day Use Program, you must:

  • Have a child (age 18 or under) receiving medical treatment at a Calgary hospital
  • Obtain a referral from a social worker or other medical personnel at the hospital

Book Your Stay in Three Easy Steps

Step 1: Hospital Referral

To stay overnight or to use the House during the day, a hospital referral is required.

Families with a child receiving medical treatment at Alberta Children’s Hospital should contact a Family Support Specialist at the Family & Community Resource Centre (FCRC) by phoning 403-955-3272. Evening and weekend referrals (when the FCRC is closed) can be made by a nurse.

Families with a child receiving medical treatment at the Foothills NICU or any other Calgary hospital should contact a hospital social worker or a member of their child’s medical team for a referral.

Step 2: Check Availability

Availability can only be confirmed within 24 hours of your intended date of arrival. To confirm if a room is available, parents must phone the House no earlier than one day in advance. Availability inquiries can be made seven days a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. by phoning our Family Services team at 403-240-3000 ext. 129.

Should a room not be available, please ask our Family Services team about alternate accommodation options available to you.

Step 3: Check In

Once you’ve confirmed your room, you can check in between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. seven days a week. Parking will be provided for the entire length of your stay. Once checked in, our Family Services team will provide you with a tour of the House and answer any questions you may have.

Returning Families

If you have previously stayed at the House, you do not require a new hospital referral to stay with us for a child’s continued treatment.

Please contact the House directly to arrange your stay by calling 403-240-3000 ext. 129. If your child is receiving treatment for a different medical condition, a new referral is required.

Nightly Fee

The nightly fee for families is $12 per night for the duration of your stay.

Please speak with a member of our Family Services team should you have any questions.
